Training
We have designed 4 training options for volunteers to choose from.

No Training:

This option is to not take part in any training. This is an option for anyone who is volunteering on a short time frame and doesn't want to use up a few days when they could be volunteering or for anyone who has already travelled in Nepal or doesn't feel the training will be useful.

Cultural Training:

This gives you 5 days of training. You will spend your first 2 nights in a hotel and will then be moved to a small villiage where you will stay with a host family for 3 days. This package gives you time to adjust to Nepal and learn about some very important cultural diffrences. You will learn things like how to use a squat toilet, how to properly eat with your hands and other important things that may save you from an awkward situation. During your training you will also go sight seeing with a guide to visit some of the interesting local sights.

5 Day Language and Cultural Training:

This program is the same as the Cultural Training program but it also gives you 15 hours of language training with a certified teacher. Nepali is a very simple language and the 15 hours gives you basic skills to help you communicate with local people in Nepal during your stay.

7 Day Language and Cultural Training:

This program is again, the same as the Cultural Training program, and the 5 Day Language and Cultural Training program. Instead of having 15 hours of language training you will recieve 21 hours. You will spend your extra 2 days in the villiage with your host family and will be taken on extra excursions in the area for sight seeing. This program is geared towards volunteers who are staying long term and/or would like to learn as much of the language as possible. It will also give you a little extra time to adjust to the Nepali way of life before you go to your placement.

Health Post

This program is geared towards anyone who has some experience in health. You will be working in a community health post. This is not a hospital. It is for local people who have common health problems. You will treat people with the flu, minor cuts and burns, giving tetanus shots and dealing other non-life threatening problems. You will stay with a local host family in this program.

You will also give seminars to local schools and orphanages about good hygiene, health and nutrition. If you are comfortable and have the knowledge, you may be asked to help informally educate the other staff at the health post as well.

VolunteerThe health posts do not have a lot of resources so if you have any information which might help with seminars do not hesitate to bring it with you. You may also want to bring such things as clean disposable rubber gloves or gauze. These things are sometimes available at the health posts but not always. Many of these places will wash and reuse such things.

For this program you must be at least 18 years of age and provide a police record as you will be in contact with children. You will need to be in generally good health and have some sort of medical experience. This does not mean you need to have a degree in medicine. There is no time restriction on this program.

Conservation

VolunteerThis program is for anyone who wants to help clean up our environment. Nepal has some of the most amazing country in the world. Unfortunately, they are not provided with the education we are and they are not provided with garbage cans. During this program you will help by cleaning up local ponds where animals drink from and other areas which are covered in litter and are ruining the beautiful landscape.

This program is great to mix with the Orphanage, English Teaching or Building programs. You will be setting a great example for the local people during this program and you will see amazing results which will make you feel great! You will stay with a local host family lose to your work site. However, you may have to take a short bus ride depending on where the project is.

For this program there is no age restriction. Anyone under the age of 18 must have parental consent. You will need to be in fairly good health as you will be doing physical work. You will need to provide a police record. There is no time restriction on this program.

Building

This program is constantly changing. You may be involved in doing a number of different things. You may be helping to repair a home or a school to make it safer for the children or helping to build a playground or simply painting or gardening to make things look nicer.

VolunteerIf you have special skills that you feel would be best put to use in a certain way please feel free to let us know ahead of time so we can have a look at what our upcoming projects will be. If you have specific idea’s for this program, please let us know what they are and we will see if it is possible. We think it’s great when volunteers take initiative to start up new projects!

There is no age restriction for this program but anyone under the age of 18 must have parental consent. You must provide a police record. You may not be working directly with children but you may be working close to them if you are, for example, fixing up a school. You also need to be in generally good health with no major problems. There is no time restriction on this program.

Culture Exchange

Culture ExchangeThis program is for anyone who is just looking to really experience an exciting new culture. You will be placed with a host family in a small community just outside of Kathmandu. You will be Volunteergiven breakfast and dinner and will eat with the family you are staying with. If you choose to take part in our training program, you will be given 15 hours of language training and you will be taught about some important cultural differences to get you off to a good start. You will be given the chance to interact with local people which gives you the opportunity to learn about their culture and to teach them about yours. This can be an extremely rewarding experience you won’t soon forget.
There is no age restriction on this program but if you are under the age of 18 we will need parental consent. You will also need to provide a police record upon arrival in Nepal. There is no time restriction on this program.

Where does my money go?
Your money covers transportation while you are in Nepal. We will pick you up from the airport, to and from the training village and to and from your placement. It also covers supervision of the projects and staff coming to visit you while you are at your work site and home stay to make sure you are doing well.

Your fee also covers administration costs for our partner organization your host family receives payment for your rent, food and clean water. Money from each volunteer is put into a project fund to help pay for supplies.

Depending on what package you choose, training materials and a language teacher are provided. Also 2 – 4 nights in a hotel and meals are supplied for you while you are staying in Kathmandu and at your home stay during your training.

 ther Cost's Incurred
You will also be responsible to pay for your own flight, traveller's health insurance, police report, vaccinations and airport tax. We recommend you bring an extra $25.00 a week for spending money. You may want to eat out and meet up with other volunteers on your weekends. You will most likely want to bring home some souvenirs as well. We also recommend you bring extra money and plan to do some travelling while you are in Nepal. You will find it very cheap in Nepal compared to your own country.
